MyFoxPhoenix.com has a follow to the initial arrest report of Amar’e Stoudemire’s mom Carrie. Ms. Stoudemire was taken into police custody on Saturday in Scottsdale after being pulled over for speeding, erratic driving and failing to have a court ordered-Interlock ignition device on her vehicle.
The FOX-TV outlet has what it calls a “bizarre recording” of Carrie taken from the back of a police cruiser as the NBA player’s mom was taken to a local lockup.
The report read: “(Carrie) had a lot of money inside her wallet that was located inside her purse… she wanted her purse to go with Amare, but she wanted the wallet to go with her. Carrie stated, ‘I don’t trust him, he will take all my money!’”
We also find out from the police report where Ms. Stoudemire claimed to be going when she was pulled over.
The officer also said the Carrie insisted she was on her way to alcohol class and had not been drinking.
“Boy that feels good to be arrested and not drunk. Woo hoo!” she says in the tape.
In 2006 the ARIZONA REPUBLIC reported:
Carrie Mae Stoudemire, the troubled mother of injured basketball star Amare Stoudemire, was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for aggravated DUI.
Stoudemire, 50, pleaded guilty and received credit for the 162 days she spent in custody since her Oct. 21 arrest for crashing into a freeway barrier on Interstate 10.
The drunken-driving accident violated the terms of her probation from a 2003 DUI incident.
Stoudemire was arrested at Scottsdale Fashion Square in July 2004 and charged with shoplifting more than $1,100 in clothes from Neiman Marcus.
We often overrate “distractions” as they pertain to pro athletes, but this situation is the absolute real thing.
You can’t help but have sympathy for Amar’e in this case. It’s also natural to wonder why his mom still has access to a vehicle, among other things. But from not knowing the situation intimately, it’d be unfair to criticize Amar’e for his mother’s continual, serious problems with law enforcement. Let’s just hope she gets some help very, very soon.
