Great, more A-Rod news. But this particular scoop is steroid-free. The New York Yankees slugger will reportedly go under the knife to have a cyst removed, and he may be out for as many as 10 weeks.
Rodriguez was scheduled to play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, but he left the team on Tuesday and flew to Vail, Colorado, to have a cyst on his hip examined. Dr. Marc Philippon, one of the leading orthopedic hip surgeons, examined Rodriguez and determined that he needs surgery.
But this is news to the DR’s general manager, who says he hasn’t received any word about A-Rod’s exam in Colorado. The Yankees are also declining comment, but say they will make some sort of announcement later this afternoon.
Either way, it’s all a real pain in the ass.
*UPDATE*: A-Rod had the cyst drained, but now also has a torn labrum. The Yankees hope Rodriguez can avoid surgery - or it’s four months on the shelf.
