Musician John Mayer, who broke up with Jessica Simpson about six months ago (what a lovely couple!), posts a message on his official website this week in response to the abuse Simpson has been taking from Cowboys fans since the team’s loss to the New York Giants in the NFL playoffs.

Mayer: “Dear Dallas and Surrounding Areas, I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas. All witty barbs, blogs, and fashion policing aside, that girl loves Texas more than you know. It’s one of her most defining traits as a person. So please don’t try and take that away from her. (You probably wouldn’t be able to, but it’s less work for all involved.)“

Whew! We’re sure that’ll make Cowboys fans feel a hole lot better, knowing that Jessica Simpson loves Texas with all her heart *sniffle*. But if she loved Texas so much, why didn’t she take Tony Romo to lovely Galveston Beach during they bye week - instead of going south of the border?

Personally, we think this is merely a play by Mayer to land an endorsement with Whataburger.
