Tiger Woods has had around the same number of reported mistresses, yet the media reports him as a sex addict while ESPN winks at Jeter’s playboy lifestyle.
That Jeter isn’t married isn’t lost on me, but this discussion is about a purported addiction, something that you absolutely cannot control. It has nothing to do with whether you are married or not.
Another prominently cited symptom of sex addiction is that it prevents a person from adequately attending to their professional life.
Has that affected Woods or Jeter? No and no.
The best part of all of this is not a single media report has confirmed Woods getting treatment for sex addiction. For all we know, he hasn’t and doesn’t plan to.
The whole premise could well be media-manufactured fantasy yet a cottage industry has sprung up of those covering a story that probably doesn’t exist. Sounds a little like the beat writers who cover the Raiders.
This is not a criticism of Jeter, it’s pointing out the insanity of claiming Woods is a sex addict.

The issue has never been about sex addiction, Brooks. This is about image. Who makes more money based on appearances, tournaments and apparel based on an “all-American” family image that sells? Tiger does, of course, so that’s why he’s the bigger target and why he’s more vulnerable…and rightly so. Because all that he presented to the public is obviously fraudulent.
IMO, Jeter is doesn’t hide his relationships (nor flaunt them) and doesn’t present himself to the public as a committed man at all. That’s why the media leaves him alone. Because: where’s the freakin story? As a bachelor, is he that out of control? To me, he’d be punished more if he DIDN’T have 14 girlfriends or more to sleep with in that time period.

I’ve had sex with 15 people since 2000, granted, I’m sure there are plenty of girls not listed that Jeter has had. But, as stated above, its different when you’re single then when you are in a committed relationship. If you believe in sex addition, a big part of it is having sex when you know you shouldn’t (i.e. an affair). How a guy taking advantage of is bachelor status compares to Tiger Woods is ridiculous?

DUDE are you serious. If ANYTHING Derek Jeter should be the spokesperson for WHAT to do with relationships as a Professional Sports Star. He should market his strategy and speak at EVERY rookie symposium on how to handle the “lifesyle”. Remember most of these guys are under the age of 35 so I ask why in the world get married when there is so much DATING you can do from the time you ink your first million to the time you need to settle down. I thought up the Jeter/Woods comparison also, and there is no comparison. Jeter is single and can do what he wants. Woods is married. Hell, Derek Jeter’s list of conquests is even better than Tiger Woods and I wouldn’t blink if I heard Jeter got with Rachel Uchitel also.
If you want to be a manwhore, be like Jeter and don’t get married. Amazing how it won’t be a scandal.
