After a recent column in the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, it’s unlikely that Jay Mariotti will be invited to Thanksgiving dinner at the home of either Chicago baseball manager. Marotti, who famously feuded with Ozzie Guillen earlier this summer, charges Cubs skipper Dusty Baker for prostituting racist letters he’s received from irate fans to hide his own inadequacies as manager. Pointing out the past and current popularity of Ernie Banks, Sammy Sosa and Derrek Lee — and the “scorch marks on the backs of managers Jim Riggleman, Tom Trebelhorn and Jim Lefebrve when they struggled” — Mariotti says it’s time for Baker to face the music and not cloak his poor performance by making a big story out of a few jerk fans.
